Shaping ICT Policies for Integrative and Inclusive Digital Services

Migration flows into Europe in the last decade necessitate the development of innovative policies that consider migrants’ integration while ensuring national and regional interests. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) can play an effective role in facilitating such integration. Thus, ICT development and diffusion must be considered when developing migration policies in EU Member States to maximise impact and reduce barriers to deployment. Building on the recent Joint Migration Policy Whitepaper, which has been prepared by six European projects working on ICT-enabled integration, the chapter highlights the major challenges in this area and presents a set of policy recommendations for boosting digitalisation in public authorities. It sheds the light on the importance of standardised data and harmonised information and applications to facilitate access to public services that targets migrants, the significance of enhancing accessibility to services that consider security and data protection issues and the sustainability of deployed solutions through effective partnerships.
