Community participation in decision-making improves the chance of identification of new strategies, leading to better scenarios for human-environment interaction. The diversity of stakeholders, the redundancy of their roles and their active participation in the whole process of transition are key factors for implementing projects and practices to improve the resilience of socio-ecological systems. The paper addresses the need for innovation in the urban transformation processes governance, presenting cases and highlighting promising perspectives. Creative diversity declined in the organizational and governance component of complex territorial systems concerns the innovation of decision-making and governance processes towards more adaptive and collaborative models and towards a more diverse cultural and knowledge arena promoting cross-fertilization among epistemologies and knowledge typologies.
