This essay describes the relationship between drawing and design in the work of Antonio Monestiroli. Precision and essentiality are the hallmarks of his works of architecture, which also governed his ways of drawing, a design tool focused on technical representations, at an urban scale and that of the individual building. Plans, elevations, cross sections, volumetric plan views, collages and scale models were the prevailing ways in which his projects were explored and illustrated, even during the transition from analogue to digital drawing; abstract yet objective representations which avoided the temptations of rendering, tending towards a formal precision that could match the precision of the idea itself.
Il testo descrive il rapporto fra disegno e progetto nel lavoro di Antonio Monestiroli. Precisione ed essenzialità sono le cifre distintive delle sue architetture che indirizzano anche i modi del disegno, strumento del progetto di cui privilegia le rappresentazioni tecniche, sia alla scala urbana che a quella del singolo edificio. Piante, prospetti, sezioni, viste planivolumetriche, collage, modelli in scala sono i modi prevalenti secondo cui i progetti sono studiati e illustrati, anche nel passaggio dal disegno analogico a quello digitale, rappresentazioni astratte ma oggettive, che rifuggono le tentazioni del render, verso una precisione formale che corrisponda alla precisione di una idea.
