Logistica, territorio e consumo di suolo. Un elefante in cristalleria

The development of the logistics sector has received significant impetus in the last fifteen years, with the consequent transformation of large regional areas. The land take in this sector is huge, out of proportion with the existing urban fabric but has yet to be precisely quantified, which is actually urgent and necessary in order to implement measures that can stem the phenomenon. Logistics have generated new suburbs – known as logurbie - in small and medium-sized Italian municipalities where it has found a more favourable context to settle in. This is a sector that has benefited from the significant distraction of the public sector and urban planning with regard to the eff ects on the environment, the landscape and society. The text reports data on land use by the logistics sector and looks into critical issues that require urgent discussions in order to avoid the recurrence of environmental and social problems and distortions in the organization of the territory.
