Cultural heritage and landscape education train new generations to discover and value shared heritage and spaces, to participate in civic life, to be active and responsible citizens, to appreciate cultural diversity and the intersection of generations, and to adopt sustainable lifestyles. Education for active participation in heritage and environment should be extended beyond contexts of excellence to include ordinary landscapes and the most fragile social ones. The 2018 research project “Schools Activate Resources” has carried out an experimental and method-ologically innovative action in Milan on a fragile and largely unrecognized heritage in an urban periphery rich in critical issues. In this book, some contributions and reflections from the research team are complemented by the essays from authors external to the project, that solicit and broaden the debate in light of the outcomes of the ScAR experience.
