The increase in electric loads characterized by the growing penetration of electric vehicles and the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas is giving a strong boost to the deployment of Renewable Energy Sources power plants, in particular Photovoltaic and wind. In this context, the definition of areas suitable for the installation of such plants is a key factor for an efficient and sustainable land usage.The aim of this work is to exploit georeferenced data to estimate the photovoltaic capacity that can be installed in the competence areas of Italian highways.
