The Series Power Electronic Converter (SPEC) is an innovative solution for improving low voltage network performance, such as to maintain the RMS network voltage at a constant value. In the previous works, the design aspects and functional improvements under active loads and fault conditions were presented. To experimentally verify one of the device functionalities, in particular the voltage regulation capability, the SPEC was installed in a real network and was tested. The results from this field tests are presented in this work, which demonstrates the performance of the device in regulating the RMS voltage value of the network. In addition, some practical issues faced during the field tests are discussed

Abstract

The Series Power Electronic Converter (SPEC) is an innovative solution for improving low voltage network performance, such as to maintain the RMS network voltage at a constant value. In the previous works, the design aspects and functional improvements under active loads and fault conditions were presented. To experimentally verify one of the device functionalities, in particular the voltage regulation capability, the SPEC was installed in a real network and was tested. The results from this field tests are presented in this work, which demonstrates the performance of the device in regulating the RMS voltage value of the network. In addition, some practical issues faced during the field tests are discussed
