Abstract

With the expansion of photovoltaic cell installation in residential units, the low voltage distribution system faces a new challenge concerning the stability of the distribution network. This problem is associated with sudden flickers - that is overvoltage followed by under voltage due to the uncontrolled connection/disconnection of the photovoltaic units. This paper introduces a distribution static synchronous shunt compensator based on a modular multilevel converter as a solution to regulate the overvoltage and give the distribution network more stability.
