The present work aims to contribute to the Open Data target towards the digitalization of the construction sector, fostered by the European Commission within its broader mission to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Focusing in particular on the performance of dry-layered envelope construction products, the article offers a replicable and scalable methodology for the structuring of a comprehensive database that would allow to easily populate a modular digital product passport. This tool has been, in fact, identified at European level as fundamental to promote the potential of digitalization of information, to boost productivity, competitivity and resource efficiency in the construction sector. Nevertheless, the structure and the contents of the document have not been defined or regulated to date, resulting in several different interpretations of the same, which is consequently quite slow in becoming a reality. In that context, the article presents an attempt of structured digitalization of relevant information on dry-layered envelope construction products available on the Italian market, with a view to extending and scaling this methodology to the whole construction sector and to supranational markets. This repository could be subsequently made available online through a dedicated platform, constantly updated and implemented thanks to a fruitful synergy with the manufacturers, that would not only allow the browsing of information that is usually not accessible in a single place, but also the download of a complete and comprehensive document (“digital building product passport”) on each product of interest. In order to ease the decision-making process for the final user, the work offers also a graphical multiparameter evaluation of the most relevant Key Performance Indicators identified for the specific functional cluster of belonging, allowing at the same time the immediate comparison between different solutions available on the market according to the target performance set by the user.
