We often talk about the relationship that Mies established with archaic architecture. The photographs depicting the great master sitting on the steps of the theatre of Epidaurus are well known. Some references are more immediate, as the comparison between Eleusis Telesterion and the Convention Hall suggest, while others are more complex. The paper deals with the relationship that Mies established with Greek architecture, focusing on the analogies between the Weissenhof Siedlung, mainly in his masterplan, and the morphological structure of Delphi’s Sanctuary, in an idea of architecture where the architectural organism is seen as a montage of elements that find their meaning in their relationship. From the research of an idea of the city, through the figure/ground composition of the arrangement a larger linear building that stands out against a tumult of small minors and the perception of the path and the spaces, up to the idea of space in the modern dwelling with the use of iron columns, there are many elements of continuity that the article aims to retrace, to the search for an idea of archaic as the origin of the present.
