Luigi Moretti (1906-1973), Roman by birth and temperament, was the embodiment of the intellectual architect with his gaze always open and fixed on new horizons. Throughout his career, right from his professional debuts, he interwove art and architecture and, after the Second World War, he wrote a reflection on the integration of the various arts based on the concept of “unity of languages”. For Moretti, graphic art was, therefore, a place for testing and developing theoretical issues, historical reflections and critical formulations. A genuine “machine” that powers the movements of an architectural project. Starting from primary sources and writings that appeared in the journal Spazio, this essay aims to investigate the relationship between the arts and architecture in Luigi Moretti’s theory, focusing on three main topics: the concept of form, the idea of space, and the definition of ideal and real structure.

Abstract
Luigi Moretti (1906-1973), Roman by birth and temperament, was the embodiment of the intellectual architect with his gaze always open and fixed on new horizons. Throughout his career, right from his professional debuts, he interwove art and architecture and, after the Second World War, he wrote a reflection on the integration of the various arts based on the concept of “unity of languages”. For Moretti, graphic art was, therefore, a place for testing and developing theoretical issues, historical reflections and critical formulations. A genuine “machine” that powers the movements of an architectural project. Starting from primary sources and writings that appeared in the journal Spazio, this essay aims to investigate the relationship between the arts and architecture in Luigi Moretti’s theory, focusing on three main topics: the concept of form, the idea of space, and the definition of ideal and real structure.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
