The article deals with the theme of shared modernity between Europe and Latin America in a chronological period that precedes the development of modern architecture in Argentina. This period corresponds to the years of the great emigration, characterized by a large presence of architects and builders from Italy. In the context of a broader process of historiographic revision aimed at overcoming narratives based on substantially unidirectional transfer processes, the article indeed asks whether one can legitimately speak, as it has been done, of Italian architecture in Argentina. Starting from a varied series of training and professional paths of the protagonists who were active in Buenos Aires, we find out that many of them became architects precisely in the Río de la Platacontext, by participating in international relations that make their architecture a product of cultural mediation, open to local contributions.
