Abstract

The migration from the rural areas to the urban centres and the development of industrialised societies, following the Industrial Revolution, transformed the activities of human beings. In a few generations, we have gone from a life spent in the open air, working in the countryside, to one mainly indoor. In this article, and in the two following issues of LUCE, by observing this radical change in our living environments in the course of a few generations, we address the complex and unresolved question of the physiological effects of light and colour in interiors with a scientific approach, starting with a historical introduction that also considers the most recent technological innovations.
