All over the world examples of unfinished and abandoned building structures are widespread. They can often be found in degraded areas and they can be the cause of this degradation themselves. However, within the new planning instruments, the intention to eliminate, or at least reduce these problems, is gaining more and more importance. The aim of this paper is to describe an evaluation methodology, summarized in a logical diagram, which outlines the steps to establish the future and the recovery feasibility of a building ‘skeleton’. For this purpose, a question needs to be answered: can the structure be recovered or its demolition is more convenient? In order to answer to this question in a preliminary design phase, a matrix to be used when dealing with an abandoned structure was developed. On this basis, the paper shows the main aspects to be considered in relation to this design process, with particular reference to some case studies analyzed during the research project.

Abstract
On this basis, the paper shows the main aspects to be considered in relation to this design process, with particular reference to some case studies analyzed during the research project.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
