La ricerca sulle sinestesie. Un contributo fra neuroscienze e design / The Study of Synaesthesia. Between Neuroscience and Design

The article retraces the main stages that have marked the research on synaesthesia and detects two barely addressed issues: the history of synaesthesia and its future prospects. First, the role and historical importance of Italian scholars (physiologists, aestheticians, historians, linguists) in identifying the synaesthetic phenomenon will be outlined, given how they are too often left out of the scientific production. Second, some applicative prospects drawing from the neuroscientific knowledge on synaesthesia in the field of design for content accessibility and design for health and well-being will be further explored.

Il testo ripercorre le principali tappe che hanno scandito la ricerca sulle sinestesie e rileva due questioni poco affrontate: l’una rivolta alla storia delle sinestesie, l’altra alle prospettive future. Da un lato, il ruolo e l’importanza storica degli studiosi italiani (fisiologi, estetologi, storici, linguisti) nell’identificazione del fenomeno sinestesico, troppo spesso dimenticati nelle conferenze e nella produzione scientifica internazionale. Dall’altro, alcune prospettive applicative delle conoscenze neuroscientifiche sulle sinestesie nel design dell’accessibilità ai contenuti e nel design per la salute e il benessere.
