Dalla pandemia in poi. (Progetti di) spazi pubblici, tra cura e just- out-of-time

Since the first months of lockdown, researchers and professionals have been exploring the possibilities of urbanism and architecture in our time –when the COVID-19 is just one among many interrelated crises. For Latour (2020), we live in a situation that cannot be solved but that we should take care of. Thus, the design disciplines are called to take care of the assemblage of cities and territories. This contribution argues that the design of public space is crucial in this sense, especially if it knows how to “stay with uncertainty” and, as Zucchi (2020) says, to be “just-out-of-time,” reconsidering the single emergency in a broader frame. These issues are part of the PhD research that the author is carrying out at the Politecnico di Milano, identifying the antifragile strategies that feature many design processes of public space which not only stay with uncertainty but also take advantage of it.
