Abstract
In the city of Turin is the presence of foreign immigrants has increased considerably over these last two decades. How is the foreign population distributed over space? Are there areas of concentration? This research is conducted for 2001 and 2011 (using available retrospective data from Census) and shows a relatively consistent picture of the trend of ethnic segregation in Turin. The spatial distribution of foreign populations is measured through the application of two simple indexes – the Dissimilarity Index and the Location Quotient – while the neighbourhood deprivation is measured via ndi composite index. A relation between ethnic segregation and neighbourhood deprivation seems not to be present in 2001 but to emerge in 2011 where segregation tends to be higher in most deprived neighbourhoods.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
