The old port of Trieste started to be built in 1865. The project of the warehouses was carried out in 1885 by the engineers L. Buzzi and F. Krause and entailed the urban transformation of the city. Nowadays, the old port area, restricted to the citizens, is no longer used because the 19th-century warehouses do not fulfil the contemporary port requirements. Hence, a regeneration process has been carried out in order to allow the reuse of the existing buildings. Only the introduction of new functions can provide the conservation of this architectural heritage. The study aims to analyse three levels of interventions in different scales. The first one concerns the link between the port area and the city and the necessity of planning the road network. The second level deals with the need for joint action strategies for the reuse projects of these storages. Finally, the third focuses on the relationship between new functions and their compatibility with the conservation issues. The paper examines the case of the Magazzino 20, which will host an antiquities storage and other public functions related to conservation of cultural heritage.

Abstract
The paper examines the case of the Magazzino 20, which will host an antiquities storage and other public functions related to conservation of cultural heritage.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
