The contribution presents some reflections from the E/MIGRATE research project developed at Politecnico di Milano and focused on the depopulation phenomena of the inland areas in Lombardia. These dynamics, outlined over time and produced by causes of different origins, have consequently produced a degradation of the territories, of the environment, and of the built heritage. How is it possible to reverse the current trend and give life to new “welcoming places”? The research works in two parallel and complementary directions of the built heritage preservation and of the construction of new community profiles, exploring difficulties and possibilities of re-inhabiting processes.

Abstract

The contribution presents some reflections from the E/MIGRATE research project developed at Politecnico di Milano and focused on the depopulation phenomena of the inland areas in Lombardia. These dynamics, outlined over time and produced by causes of different origins, have consequently produced a degradation of the territories, of the environment, and of the built heritage. How is it possible to reverse the current trend and give life to new “welcoming places”? The research works in two parallel and complementary directions of the built heritage preservation and of the construction of new community profiles, exploring difficulties and possibilities of re-inhabiting processes.
