This work aims to reflect on the focal concepts in the background of an advanced maintenance system built on the characteristics induced in the digital era. The focal concepts are firstly analysed by giving prominence both to past and recent evolutions, making a literature review in regard to intelligent maintenance, e-maintenance, smart maintenance and maintenance 4.0 as main keywords. Based on the literature findings, a set of attributes and consequences as core elements of the focal concepts is codified; these are further adopted in a multiple case study analysis aimed to explore the perceptions from industry.

Abstract

This work aims to reflect on the focal concepts in the background of an advanced maintenance system built on the characteristics induced in the digital era. The focal concepts are firstly analysed by giving prominence both to past and recent evolutions, making a literature review in regard to intelligent maintenance, e-maintenance, smart maintenance and maintenance 4.0 as main keywords. Based on the literature findings, a set of attributes and consequences as core elements of the focal concepts is codified; these are further adopted in a multiple case study analysis aimed to explore the perceptions from industry.
