Whilst digital innovations, and the related knowledge economy and society, have been reducing the borders between different kinds of production (of goods and services), this edited book aims to put in relation the most significant workplaces of the digital transition, that is ongoing after the de-industrialization era: coworking spaces and makerspaces. The goal is to share the first outcomes of some international and multi-disciplinary research projects concerning these innovative workplaces, centring around new research methodologies, actors, location patterns and effects, as well as urban and regional policies and planning. The rationale is to provide one of the first international publications able to relate the worldwide growing phenomena of coworking, open-source making, their respective workplaces, and the complexities of their nexus with urban and regional change processes, from both the theoretical and empirical points of view.
