The motorway bridge buildings of Angelo Bianchetti. Survival or reform of an architectural theme. The first, and perhaps the only, authentic architecture for motorway mobility is the service and refreshment station building with a "bridge" typology, with its first prototype inaugurated in 1959 during the construction of the Autostrada del Sole: the Autogrill Pavesi in Fiorenzuola d'Arda, built by the architect Angelo Bianchetti, among the first in the world (or at least contemporary to the bridge station in Des Plains near Chicago by architects Wilbur Binford and Charles Genther, of 1956-59). An exceptional typology, replicated in Italy in a dozen of bridge restaurants built between 1959 and 1972, gradually spread throughout the world of motorways until it stopped in conjunction with the first oil shock of 1973.
