According to Jean d'Auton in june 1507 the Governor of Milan Charles II Chaumont d'Amboise offered a performace to the King of France Louis XII in the garden of his Villa consisting in the assault of a bastion. Given the fact that Leonardo da Vinci was at his order and was resident in his Villa is logical to presume that the bastion was designed by him. Various drawings by Leonardo testify of eathen bastions drawn by him around these years and one in particular representing a fortress commissionaed by d'Amboise in Locarno in 1507..
