The paper try to discover the possible relation between a historical pilgrimage route – ‘the Abbots-way’ - and the landscape, the territory structure, the villages and the social structure of the local communities. It deals both with preservation and urban regeneration for the future survival of these communities. The study is focused on Farini: a small village of about one thousand and four hundred inhabitants, spread over an area of 112 square kilometers and fragmented into 67 smaller places. One of this, Montereggio, has been proposed as a case study in the workshop ‘Historical Buildings Preservation Studio’ held by the authors at Politecnico of Milan, School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design, Piacenza’s Campus. Urban analysis, strategies for urban and social reactivations, building surveys and historical researches have been produced. Presenting these results for the first time, some issues will face the discussion regarding national and international conventions on cultural routes.
