In this project we will address the design of a manipulated electronic Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device with simple head movements for Cerebral Palsy (CP) patients with level III or IV Viking Speech Scale (VSS) and a Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) level IV or V which means they are limited in their ability to control leg and arm movements and are therefore not candidates for the use of other conventional AACs. This was accomplished using a simple hierarchical word choice system as well as a inertia sensor mounted over the user’s ear with the support of 3D printing technology as its primary manufacturing process.
