tom emerson, álvaro siza: aberturas / openings

"Openings" is the first volume in the series "Conversations with the Álvaro Siza Archive", aimed at placing the work of Álvaro Siza, and particularly the materials held by the Serralves Foundation, in dialogue with some of the most relevant contemporary architectural practices. An archive is not only a place for solitude and isolation, but it can also be a space for encounters and conversations. In this context, for each volume in the series an architect will be invited to select specific materials from the Archive and present them in connection with his/her own work. Tom Emerson was the first voice invited to join this conversation. Tom Emerson, one of the most unique voices in contemporary European architecture, studied architecture at the University of Bath, the Royal College of Art and the University of Cambridge and founded 6a architects, with Stephanie Macdonald, in 2001. He has taught at the Architectural Association and the University of Cambridge, and is currently Professor of Architecture at the ETH in Zurich.
