Abstract

The David M. Rubenstein Forum of the University of Chicago, a conference centre and auditorium complex overlooking the green axis of the Midway Plaisance, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro is now under construction, conceived in 1870 by Olmsted and Vaux as a linear park among the waters of Lake Michigan, Jackson Park and Washington Park. The New York studio signed an initial proposal in 2016, developed to meet the needs of the university in terms of spaces for events, meetings, conferences and shows with a building that could become a lively place of debate and an intellectual reference point for the diverse community that inhabits the campus. In 2017, it revised the project, further fragmenting its already composite system.
