The book explores, from an interior design point of view, the dichotomy of home vs. house in the terms of occupation vs. adaptation, the dialogue which is established between the needs of the inhabitants and the answers given by the space itself, through adaptations and variations of the interiors, in order to welcome and foster the expression of the occupants’ identities. The concept of “interior legacy” will describe what interior spaces leave us with after their use, in terms of materials and remains, but also of memories. The role of the interior designer is to foresee these evolutions and arrange the house as a container, so that it can best accommodate transformations and, in particular for temporary houses, the different identities of its inhabitants. This means knowing how to design adaptations over the course of time, managing the necessary changes so as to implement the design in its entirety, in its complete temporality: past, present and, most importantly, future. This idea of designing the future transformations of the spaces and at the same time leaving a trace, a signal of the past uses, can be called the legacies of the interiors with the intention of leaving something to the future, to the next generations.

Abstract
This idea of designing the future transformations of the spaces and at the same time leaving a trace, a signal of the past uses, can be called the legacies of the interiors with the intention of leaving something to the future, to the next generations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
