The paper presents two driven forces to change an existing grounding power delivery scheme in distribution networks (DN). It is presented the case of the Italian DSOs which have made an extensive change in the grounding method towards a compensated system motivated by a quality of service regulation, and is presented the Brazilian DSO case which has begun to modify its previous scheme in a couple of substations in order to enhance the security of the network. The IEEE 34 bus test feeder network (solid grounded DN) is used in order to detect the technical disadvantage when a compensated grounding system is introduced. Once the problems in the system are identified, it is proposed some reinforcement actions in the network to overcome the abnormal conditions and make feasible the operation of the network with a compensated scheme.
