L’architettura della facciata tra geometria, concept e costruzione. Il caso degli edifici museali. The architecture of the façade, between geometrics, concept and construction. The study case of the museum building

The paper, presented at the 41st UID-Unione Italiana del Disegno Conference, focuses on the theme of the building façade, that in previous centuries was the head training ground for the architects and that, since the Modern Movement onwards, gradually has been lost its representative and civil value. The role played in this process by the representation is investigated, starting from the bi-dimensionalization of the facade by Le Corbusier to the volumetric transposition by P. Eisenman and C. Rowe of R. Wittkover's Palladian interpretative diagrams. Finally, with reference to a selection of late nineteenth-century museum buildings, it develops the analysis of the architectural and construction syntax of the component elements of the facades. architecture, museum, façade, geometrics, construction
