Long-distance passenger transport market

Long-distance transport is clearly involving fewer trips, but in terms of distance travelled, its weight is not smaller than the total of local trips. Nevertheless, the attention of research on long-distance transport has not reached the same understanding, except for air transport. The aim of this Special Issue is to fill this gap, collecting a broad range of studies all focusing on the long-distance segment and on its specific issues. This introduction will shortly discuss a selection of the main research topics of the opening of long-distance markets and their evolution, also by means of the contributions included in the present volume.
