Abstract

The paper aims to investigate on specific areas of the textile industry, experimenting knowledge transfer processes and hybridization oftechniques between craftsmanship and advanced manufacturing in order to revitalize peculiar ltalian productions with a strong market potential. In particular, it aims to demonstrate the potentiality of an IN-Between design and craft approach through the integration of advanced manufacturing processes into typical production of craftsmanship, to generate a new typology of objects that became distinguished both for their innovative meaning and connection with advanced manufacturing processes. Therefore, the paper focuses on the cultura! background connected to identity, craftsmanship and know-how on the textile industry and present in detail IN-between, an experimental project for the development of new dyeing and printing techniques in order to create unique garments in an industriai way. The inspirational research is inscribed in the contemporary complexity related to the textile sector and it aims to experiment a new approach in design to stimulate its current and future economica! and cultura! growth, thanks to the transmission of locai identity interpreted by the new technologies, without losing the value ofhandcrafted item. The result is a textile research based on a new aesthetic that combines craftsmanship with the serial industriai production expressed with the inlçjet printing.
