Advanced Health Informatics is one of the 14 Grand Engineering Challenges in the 21st Century identified by US National Academy of Engineering, and is the main theme of IEEE-JBHI. It aims to improve healthcare quality and outcome by learning, reasoning, and extracting representation from massive amounts of biomedical data to derive knowledge for disease diagnosis and treatment actions. ACM is IEEE’s sister society, and SIGBio is its equivalent of EMBS. ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Health Informatics (ACM-BCB) is the annual flagship conference of ACM SIGBio started in 2010. This special session has the theme “Informatics on Biomedical Data Learning, Reasoning, and Representation” and aims to highlight top papers from the 8th ACM BCB Conference held in August 2017 in Boston, MA, USA, which attracted 307 participants from 35 countries around the world.

Abstract

WELCOME to this special session of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (IEEE-JBHI) on ACM-BCB Health Informatics.
