Since its inauguration, in 1969, the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo represents an icon of Brasilian architecture, the manifesto of an important phase of its development, and the epicentre of the Paulista School. This important chapter of the architectural culture of the country cannot be described as a style nor a “-ism”, but rather as a collective experience coalesced around shared ideas and ideologies, which was started in the ’50 by João Batista Vilanova Artigas, forged ahead by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, and now carried on by new generations of architects, who are enhancing their approach based on the peculiar interplays between art and technique, research and practice, architecture and society.

Abstract
Since its inauguration, in 1969, the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo represents an icon of Brasilian architecture, the manifesto of an important phase of its development, and the epicentre of the Paulista School. This important chapter of the architectural culture of the country cannot be described as a style nor a “-ism”, but rather as a collective experience coalesced around shared ideas and ideologies, which was started in the ’50 by João Batista Vilanova Artigas, forged ahead by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, and now carried on by new generations of architects, who are enhancing their approach based on the peculiar interplays between art and technique, research and practice, architecture and society.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
