Near Zero Energy buildings is the compulsory and recognized path towards reducing energy consumption. The building envelope plays a crucial role in the efficiency of the building system and, in particular, adaptive façades can significantly reduce consumptions. These building envelope systems are able to dynamically respond to changes in order to satisfy occupants comfort more efficiently and effectively. They are controlled by intrinsic systems (self-adaptation) or extrinsic systems (active controls). Indeed, research on the envelope has led to a technological improvement which is based not only on the multifunctional nature of its components, but also on the automation of dynamic behaviors in relations to the boundary conditions (internal and external). The factors that mostly influence human comfort are: solar radiation, outdoor temperature, humidity, precipitation, noise. Through a series of case studies, the main advantages and disadvantages of intrinsic and extrinsic control systems and their functions have been investigated.

Abstract
Through a series of case studies, the main advantages and disadvantages of intrinsic and extrinsic control systems and their functions have been investigated.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
