El palazzo all’italiana, de la casa del príncipe al principio urbano. The Palazzo all’Italiana: From the House of the Prince to the Urban Principle.

The investigation is aimed at highlighting the architectural principles characterizing the Italian Palazzo from the Renaissance onwards, and its ability to constitute a fundamental element in the construction of urban fabric also in the unlimited dimension of the contemporary metropolis. The study was articulated in two phases, a descriptive and a comparative one. The description, developed according to representation systems homogeneous and similar to those of a handbook, was conducted on 50 examples chosen from 9 Italian cities. These examples brought out the richness of variation through which this settlement form was declined in its dimensional, morphological, typological, constructive and linguistic aspects. The comparison through abacuses shows how this variety has developed on the base of common themes and characteristics, representing the value of paradigm of the palazzo.
