A significant problem is represented by the future of the people with disability, especially children, when family support will fail. The aim of this paper is to produce the Italian state of art about the public policies in terms of “Achieving a Better Life Experience for people with disabilities” and the practical experiences. To this end, the study was carried out in three steps: analysis of the legislation; assessment of the implementation instruments; collection and analysis of virtuous experiences. The results show a well-established regulatory framework with great attention to the housing theme, that is central both as instrument for the implementation of independent life projects, by social housing, and for human and social experience of living. Although it is possible to report virtuous experiences of new models of collaborative housing, thanks to the input received from the law, however the study indicates the need for a detailed work for the dissemination of the law’s contents and the application tools.
