KNOWLEDGE AND CONSERVATION OF HISTORIC HERITAGE. TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE TESTIMONIES Abstract In the action of preserving and re-using the built historic heritage, the tangible elements of the material testimonies intertwine and overlap with the intangible meanings that these testimonies bring with them. The balance between these two and the variety of values that can be attributed to them is crucial with respect to the operational choices that can be made on them. The theme of intangible values associated with built heritage in particular is extremely delicate, especially with respect to the the material consequences that the ways of its interpretation can have on the tangible testimonials connected to them through concrete interventions on the buildings. The issue revolves around the different interpretations of the concepts of authenticity and value, and that can be different depending on socio-cultural, political and economic contexts, as occurs in the current globalized landscape. The contribution aims to reflect on this theme, in order to preserve the historical heritage built, in a culturally and economically sustainable way for the future.

Nell’azione del conservare e riutilizzare il patrimonio storico esistente, gli elementi tangibili delle testimonianze materiali si intrecciano e sovrappongono con i significati immateriali che tali testimonianze recano con sé. Il bilanciamento tra queste due e la varietà dei valori che possono ad essi venire attribuiti, risulta cruciale rispetto alle scelte operative che ne possono conseguire. Il tema dei valori immateriali associati al costruito in particolare è estremamente delicato, soprattutto rispetto alle declinazioni che esso può assumere in rapporto alle conseguenze che la sua interpretazione può avere sulle testimonianze ‘materiali’ ad esse collegate attraverso interventi concreti sugli edifici. La questione ruota intorno alle differenti interpretazioni dei concetti di valore, e di autenticità che si possono determinare in ambiti socio-culturali, politici ed economici diversi, come si verifica nell’attuale panorama globalizzato. Il contributo si pone l’obiettivo di riflettere su questo tema, in ordine a una conservazione del patrimonio sostenibile culturalmente ed economicamente.
