Abstract

The idea of the Inclusive Office is related to the concept of Democratic Office (by the Quickborner Team in 1956), but assumes a unique sense in the present epoch of the financial and economic crisis. The Inclusive Office is characterized by a special relationship of hybridisation with the city and interprets an ethic value too. In the contemporary age it symbolizes a community that wants return at work for common wealth and well-being. In the History of Office of the last fifty years it is possible to read some important connections between the city and the workspace, where the city is like a “model” for the office in terms of common well-being. There are intersections and overlaps between urban systems (passage, street, square) or public spaces (club, playground) and the design of office interiors. And in the best cases (or “paradigms”) of contemporary offices the concept of the social milieu originates the idea of a social community at work. If Temporary Office, Co-working Office and Hub are the latest typologies of workspaces, it is possible to design them with a different perspective, as to work inside and outside the office, and to work with and in the city. In Europe some architects demonstrated it with a low-cost, but meaningful design.
