A computer simulator for evaluating solar potential of buildings in complex urban and landscape layouts is presented. The aim is to show in a direct way the interactions between buildings and sun by means of an user-friendly software to be used in the early steps of the design process. With this tool, developed in Windows environment, a building of parallelepiped shape can be easily drawn or modified, as well as the surrounding buildings and landscape. Shades due to surrounding buildings are displayed in each facade in a hour-by-hour animation for any day of the year and any surrounding skyline. The daily distribution of irradiation on each facade and on the roof is graphically displayed and also the numerical values are given for use in conjunction with other software.
