The railway market increasingly requires a longer useful life for the vehicles and a reduction of the maintenance operation, as well as the better prediction of possible failures of the various components. In this context, sensible components are the signal connectors used to transmit information along the train both in fixed and in detachable configuration. Therefore, the paper, after a brief analysis of the standards applied in this field, will propose mathematical models and test methodologies to foresee the useful life of these connectors.

Abstract

The railway market increasingly requires a longer useful life for the vehicles and a reduction of the maintenance operation, as well as the better prediction of possible failures of the various components. In this context, sensible components are the signal connectors used to transmit information along the train both in fixed and in detachable configuration. Therefore, the paper, after a brief analysis of the standards applied in this field, will propose mathematical models and test methodologies to foresee the useful life of these connectors.
