The present study explores the relationship between the new frontiers of architectural survey and architectu- ral restoration. A multidisciplinary didactic experience – the project for the reassembly of the Altar of the Holy Heart of Mary in the Cathedral of Gerace (Reggio Calabria) – which involved history, conservation, digital modelling, design and enhancement of cultural heritage, was the occasion for some reflections on this difficult relationship. In particular, the aim of this study is to face the issue related to cognitive innovative approaches and designs for conservation, trying to demonstrate that, when the objective of the intervention is clear, it is possible to manage innovative approaches without renouncing to tangible and respectful interventions.

Abstract
The present study explores the relationship between the new frontiers of architectural survey and architectu- ral restoration. A multidisciplinary didactic experience – the project for the reassembly of the Altar of the Holy Heart of Mary in the Cathedral of Gerace (Reggio Calabria) – which involved history, conservation, digital modelling, design and enhancement of cultural heritage, was the occasion for some reflections on this difficult relationship. In particular, the aim of this study is to face the issue related to cognitive innovative approaches and designs for conservation, trying to demonstrate that, when the objective of the intervention is clear, it is possible to manage innovative approaches without renouncing to tangible and respectful interventions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
