In the early phase of the construction of Villa Adriana, probably already in 118 BC, there has been an event of a certain importance if connected not only to the foundational and ideological aspect that the new imperial residence intended to represent, but also to the framework of the principles of architectural composition in classical antiquity: a paradigm shift in the process of architectural composition then in progress, has generated the crisis of the orthogonal grid model as a tool for general syntactic control and its replacement with a "new" model, definable as polar, polycentric, radial and hypotactic.
