Abstract
In the past spring, the pressures for the definitive destruction of the Lubljana stadium, Josef Plečnik’s work (1923-35), have been intensified: within a broader program of infrastructures and public buildings projected by the famous architects it still contributes to define the city's identity. Abandoned in 2004, sold in 2008 to a mixed company controlled by a controversial local businessman, it should be remplaced, according to a project of ten years ago, and now obsolete, by a new stadium and especially by oppressive volumes of residences and offices: a Slovenian Tor di Valle. In another city, Prague, where most significant works of Plečnik are preserved, it was decided to demolish the Liben bridge (Libeňský most), completed 1928 by Pavel Janák, one of the protagonists of Czech architecture of the first half of the Twentieth century. Fortunately the public has forced local politicians to return to their decision. Also in this case the maintenance was omitted, aiming at the most expensive - for the public - and more advantageous - for a possible contractor - demolition and reconstructionFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
