Cantilever bridges made of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, with their diverse arrangements, have given a fundamental contribution to the development of bridge construction. Many of these bridges, built more than a century ago, are still in service. Such an extended period of use allows us to ascertain their performances over time and also to highlight their most common draw-backs. With the hindsight of a century and a half of accrued experience, this paper will present an overview of how these bridges are performing today under the wear of time and increasingly heavy traffic intensities.

Abstract
Cantilever bridges made of steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, with their diverse arrangements, have given a fundamental contribution to the development of bridge construction. Many of these bridges, built more than a century ago, are still in service. Such an extended period of use allows us to ascertain their performances over time and also to highlight their most common draw-backs. With the hindsight of a century and a half of accrued experience, this paper will present an overview of how these bridges are performing today under the wear of time and increasingly heavy traffic intensities.File in questo prodotto:
