The installation/exposition designed by CZA-Cino Zucchi Architetti for Freespace – the title of the 16th Architecture Biennale in Venice – becomes the occasion for a series of thematic readings of the work of the Milanese architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni (1913-2016). His multi-functional building complex in Corso Italia (1957-64), built in a quarter heavily damaged by WWII bombs, unfolds a complex spatial narration from the scale of the city to the one of material and detail. The volume looks at its multi-faceted reality through original documents from the LCD Archive, a new set of photographs by Cino Zucchi, and custom-produced three-dimensional reconstructions. The essays by Cino Zucchi and Orsina Simona Pierini read this ‘silent masterpiece’ on the backdrop of Caccia Dominioni’s relationship with its city and of its peculiar design approach, pointing out its relevance in contemporary architectural thought.
