The development of a diplexer for satellite applications, specifically conceived for SmartLNB solutions, is here presented. The stringent requirements have called for an accurate evaluation of all the possible design choices, including the most suitable technology, the filters topology and the layout definition. A description of all the design steps are here illustrated, with a particular emphasis on the innovative solutions adopted, both from the conceptual and implementation viewpoints (choice of diplexer topology, synthesis techniques, reliability of fabrication process, etc.). The measured performances of the realized prototypes are finally reported to validate the proposed diplexer design.
