The rural heritage of the Foundation Sviluppo Ca’ Granda consists of 84 million sqm of agricultural land furrowed by the system of canals and irrigated networks managed by the consortium Est Ticino Villoresi. It is composed by more than one hundred ancient farmhouses, one abbey, three parish churches and numerous sixteenth chapels. It constitutes a valuable resource in terms of real estate and production, as well as the historical-cultural and identity values and the significant landscape, environmental and naturalistic significance, as result of a centuries stratification. In fact, these territories are still one of the most significant components for maintaining the bio-climatic and hydro-geological balances of the Milanese metropolitan area and the entire lombard plain. Starting from research and experimentation related to the foundation's heritage in South Abbiatense, the volume deals with the theme of multifunctional, productive and consumer enhancement of rural contexts, promoting a strategic project vision oriented to interinstitutional cooperation and the principles of sustainable and resilient development, with a view to revitalizing processes useful in curbing consumption phenomena, abandonment and degradation and to promote the still largely unexpressed potential of these places.
