The Alps - a productive territory - thanks to mining activity, to the exploitation of the woods - see the abandonment of the ancient, predominant function in the nineteenth century, which gives way to tourism, to the care, to the hydroelectric industry. In parallel, transport networks undergo radical changes. Also the landscape undergoes profound changes, rarely perceived. The image of the peaks and forests, immobile over time, acquires its concrete historicity. Historians have highlighted both the ways in which these transformations were perceived, and the economic, political and cultural changes that determined them, and their times. Going back to an extensive bibliography especially in the "alpine" languages - French, German, Italian - the essay highlights how the twentieth century stereotypes have conce these events and their material documents.

Abstract
The Alps - a productive territory - thanks to mining activity, to the exploitation of the woods - see the abandonment of the ancient, predominant function in the nineteenth century, which gives way to tourism, to the care, to the hydroelectric industry. In parallel, transport networks undergo radical changes. Also the landscape undergoes profound changes, rarely perceived. The image of the peaks and forests, immobile over time, acquires its concrete historicity. Historians have highlighted both the ways in which these transformations were perceived, and the economic, political and cultural changes that determined them, and their times. Going back to an extensive bibliography especially in the "alpine" languages - French, German, Italian - the essay highlights how the twentieth century stereotypes have conce these events and their material documents.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
