Progettando l’identità / Designing the identity

Working on a project for historical cities requires to focus on the concept of place’s own identity. In our society context, this is a cyclically dissolving and recomposing concept, composed by a mosaic of stakeholders with heterogeneous and conflicting interests. That’s way it’s necessary to assume a design attitude, when facing the concept of identity. The aim of the paper is discussing the theoretical foundation of the concept of identity, through a selection of significant contributions and case-studies. Additionally, the essay highlights weaknesses and potentialities of this concept, and reflects on the various directions the design project for historical cities can undertake.

Riflettere sul progetto per la città storica comporta muoversi sul concetto di identità in relazione al luogo. Un concetto che si dissolve e si ricompone continuamente in una società che si presenta a noi come un mosaico di utenti portatori di interessi eterogenei e conflittuali. La tesi che si propone consiste nella necessità di assumere un atteggiamento progettuale, di fronte al concetto identità. Lo scopo del paper è, attraverso una selezione di contributi significativi, discuterne i fondamenti al fine di restituire un quadro che riassuma problematicità e potenzialità e di introdurre una riflessione aperta alle diverse vie che il progetto per la città storica può intraprendere.
